This is about Campiglia Liguria   Campiglia Campiglia is a small town located on the slopes of the hills which enclose the western side of the gulf. From its open position, it dominates the Cinque Terre coastline, offering glimpses of the panorama of the eastern side of the gulf and of the Apuan Alps. From Campiglia, the coastline descends steeply to the sea with the long sequence of the Cinque Terre villages. Situated between the Castellana and the nearby Megalithic remains of the Mount of the Madonna (Biassa), it is probable that the town originates from a pre-Roman settlement. Amongst the symbols of the town of Campiglia, the bell tower undoubtedly plays an important role. This imposing construction, made completely out of stone, stands high on the summit of a hill 400 metres in altitude. Another of the town?s characteristic elements is the windmill, very similar to those located on the esplanade of the castle of Portovenere, which, now in disuse, still however watches over this landscape so full of nature and history. Saint Catherine of Alexandria is the Patron Saint of Campiglia and to her is dedicated the Church in the town?s main square. Close to Campiglia, in the territory of the Comune (Municipality) of Portovenere, there is a mount which rises to an altitude of 512 metres; this is the "Castellana" which overlooks and dominates, on one side, the gulf of La Spezia, and on the other the Ligurian Sea. From the top, on particularly clear days, the view is truly unique, spanning from the North-East, from the mountains of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and, following down the coastline to the furthest point visible, the port of Livorno (Leghorn); and then to the South, out in the open sea when the weather is favourable, it is possible to see the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, such as the island of Gorgona, Capraia and the island of Elba.
